Scenes from a time when slaves were bought and sold as chattel. A Roman slave had no rights. They were subject entirely to the whims of their owners. Anything you can imagine within the technological limits of the time could have and probably did happen behind the closed doors of particular Roman Villas. Here are scenes from one such villa, House Volsinii. Where the slaves are no better than animals, the slave girls kept topless, and the Roman Owners demand the highest standards of discipline and obedience while living lives of complete luxury themselves.
